What is the Mumbai Placement Process?
Teach For India partners with low-cost private schools, English-medium Government and Private-Public partnership (NGO run) schools in Mumbai. The placement process includes identification and selection of partner schools based on various parameters such as fees, infrastructure availability, support and investment of school leadership among several others and finally ends with the placement of fellows.
Some important points to note about placements:
1) Schools are selected after several rounds of interactions to ensure understanding and alignment with the program.
2) All schools are different from each other. They come with unique advantages and disadvantages and therefore cannot be compared with other schools or classrooms. We need to understand what its going to take to have the greatest impact in each of them despite the differences.
3) Fellows will be placed in different types of placement schools at different grade levels depending on the need and suitability.
4) Fellows do not get to choose their placement school or classroom. We need to approach placements with the mindset that we joined Teach For India to bridge the achievement gap; the school you are placed in is chosen because it needs us. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences but cannot guarantee the same.
5) Several factors affect fellow placements namely gender preferences, academic background, work experience, geographic location, current fellows placed in school etc.
6) Teach for India will work to ensure we meet the needs and preferences of all stakeholders and therefore will be the final decision maker on placement decisions.
