Co-Teaching
What is Co-Teaching?
Co-Teaching is an innovative teaching model on the rise internationally. It is when TWO professionals work together to ensure that ALL students are making significant emotional, behavioral, and academic gains. Teachers are jointly committed to “our” students, not “yours” or “mine” by pooling resources, achieving mutual respect with each other, mutual ownership of the classroom space and instructional content. Lastly, teachers have joint accountability to their students education and well-being.
Why does TFI arrange for co-teaching placements?
Research has found that it is better for kids to have TWO strong instructional leaders in the classroom. With two teachers with similar training and investment in the belief that ALL children can learn, your collective energy has the potential to be life changing for your students. If you communicate effectively and consistently, as a co-teaching pair you also have the potential to make a larger impact more quickly than in a traditional classroom setting due to smaller student to teacher ratios, opportunity for varied instructional strategies, and having a constant thought partner.
Within TFI, co-teachers will receive extra support in the different co-teaching models and strategies. Typically, co-teacher placements are made with classrooms with 45+ students to allow for a decrease in student to teacher ratio and address disparity between student levels that may be present in the class.
