Private Schools:
In Mumbai, Teach for India works with different low income private schools run by individuals or charitable trusts registered with the Municipal Corporation. These are located in and around the community they cater to. Several of these schools continue to partner with Teach for India since inception and are our biggest supporters.
All our private school partners follow the State Board curriculum or SSC and go upto grade 10. Private schools have a lot of autonomy in running the school which means they can employ their own teachers, decide salaries and fee structures etc. Most of these schools run in 2 shifts, morning and afternoon, where space is shared by higher and lower grades. Each school though varies a lot in terms of student enrollment, infrastructure, level of support and investment from leadership (trustee and/or Principal), administrative duties and day to day working.
