PPP Schools:
PPP or Public-Private Partnership schools are those schools which are government owned but adopted and run by an NGO. Currently, Teach for India is working with 5 NGO’s in Mumbai- Akanksha Foundation, Educo, 3,2,1, Nagarik Satta and Naandi.
All these NGO’s have a different model of operation.
Akanksha Foundation has adopted 4 municipal schools in Mumbai where they place their own school leader and teachers. Akanksha has been a big supporter of Teach for India since inception and has placed fellows since 2009.
Akanksha schools have a highly motivated team of school leaders and teachers, are well resourced and follow their own curriculum which is aligned to SSC. They also provide professional development to school leaders and teachers including Teach for India fellows. Currently Teach for India is working in 3 of the 4 Akanksha schools.
Educo has adopted 1 municipal school where Teach for India has placed its fellows as teachers. They employ a team of people who run the school and help with parent engagement, admin duties etc.
3,2,1 is a new organization, set up by a Teach for India alumnus in 2011 and has adopted 1 MCGM school which will be staffed and run by them.
Naandi works in ~22 MPS type schools where their focus is on building capacity of the MCGM teachers through regular trainings, observation, impact assessment and resource creation. They have a system of monitoring the MCGM teacher classrooms but fellows have a high amount of autonomy in the classrooms. Currently Teach for India is working in 4 of the 22 schools.
Nagarik Satta primarily works with pre primary students in schools and also provide teachers for extra curriculars activities
