Malad (E)- Goregoan
In the 19th century, Malad constituted of Orlem (also known as Valnai) which was a hamlet of just about 12 families. And now The approximate population is 1,561,938 with an additional day-time floating population of 100,000. Malad, in keeping with the diverse nature of Mumbai, has a mix of people from all over India. The original Inhabitants are the Koli community, which thrived in pockets, such as Marve, Malwani, Madh and Manori Island. Apart from the Koli community the suburban town has a large East Indian Community.The Eastern boundary of the suburb of Goregoan was effectively the Western Express Highway after which the picturesque Aarey Milk Colony offered its forested charm to the region. Goregaon is named after Mr Gore who was an old resident of Goregaon. After his death, his wife Mrinal Gore, is still working for providing drinking water for his area. There are two trusts which are known as Gore trusts.
